Education in games design and art

Postgraduate Study

At the moment I am preparing for a masters of arts degree in computer games design and art (The MA Digital Games website) at Liverpool John Moore University.

The degree is a mix between games design and art. Furthermore it sets out to stretch the minds of the participants; To encourage them to think about games in radical new ways. I personally look forward to the intensive studio based learning, as well as finally adding Maya to 3ds Max and Softimage XSI already in my 3D tool box.

Undergraduate Study

I recently finished my BA (Hons) degree in Computer Games Design at University of Teesside. I was awarded a 2.1 honours degree.

During my first year; I studied the basic principles of animation, creative drawing and the creation of narrative structure as well as learning about the history and genres of computer games. I also created 3D models for computer games and worked through Photoshop's abilities.

In my second year, I concentrated on developing my skills in the areas of games design and production; texturing, 3D modelling and animation for games; games interface design as well as high end animation.

In the final year, the focus was on my major project. Briefly summarised it was the creation of an organic environment with a strong focus on textures and colour schemes. Furthermore I expanded on games design through modules like Games Futures and Games Development, as well as honed my environment and props modelling and texturing skills in 3D Effects for Games.

For the sake of completeness, I studied for a year at Copenhagen Business School on a part time BSc. Economics and Business Administration. Due to other professional demands on my time, I left the programme.
